Mallory Moss
Cheering my way through life:
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee I grew up a Vol and I bled orange from the womb. As a family we made the drive from Memphis to Knoxville to spend our weekends cheering on the Vols. From a young age I knew that I wanted to be a Tennessee Cheerleader. Now it may sound strange, but every decesion, every team, every thing that I was a part of was a small stepping stone on my journey to Rocky Top.
It was like a routine every first day of school. Introduce yourself, tell us something interesting about you, and what you hope to be when you grow up. Some may have the common answer of, 'I want to be a doctor,' or 'I want to be a teacher.' However when it was my turn it was always the same answer, 'My name is Mallory Moss, How the Grinch Stole Christmas is my favorite movie, and one day I hope to be a University of Tennessee Cheerleader.'
As specific as it was, I have always been the type of person to be passionate and competitive in everything that I am a part of, and am constantly striving to be the best at it. Whether that was on my allstar cheerleading team, auditioning for a school play and wanting the lead, to participating in as many activities as possible.
Luckily enough, God's plan for me was the same plan I had for myself. When I made the cheerleading squad in 2010 I promised myself that I would constantly give my ALL for Tennessee daily.
The more I took classes in journalism and electronic media, I realized that this could be a career that could make a difference. Maybe I can't solve the world's problems, but I could be a story teller. I could report on things peope want to hear about. I look at being a reporter as an entertainer. In someways its just like cheering in Neyland Stadium, you may not be able to see the crowd through the lens of the camera, but eyes are on you waiting for the product you are about to present.
I will always relate my life and career possibilities back to cheerleading and the life skills it has taught me along the way!
